Setup DfwOnline.net Internet access in Windows XP

It's easy to set up an Internet connection in Windows XP. Simply follow these instructions.

Network Connections Window

(1) Click "Start", then "Control Panel". Then click on "Network and Internet Connections". Then click on "Network Connections". You should then see a window similar to the one above. Click on "Create a New Connection".

(2) This page explains the purpose of the wizard. Click on the Next button.

(3) This page asks what kind of network we are connecting to. Windows XP allows you to connect to many different types of networks. Since we are setting up an Internet connection select "Connect to the Internet" and then click on "Next".

(4) If you received a setup CD from DFWOnline.net click on Use the CD I got from an ISP and follow the instructions. For our example we are setting our connection up manually. Select the choice above and then click on Next.

(5) Since we are using a phone or ISDN modem to make the connection to the internet, select Connect using a dial-up Modem and then click next.

(5a) Enter the DfwOnline.net access number you are connecting to.  The number shown is for Fort Worth customers.  A complete listing of all access numbers can be found here.

 

(6) This page prompts for a name for this new connection. You can use the name we have provided or your own. Afterwards click on the Next button.

(7) This page asks for your account information. This consists of the login name and password you gave us when signing up for the service. Be sure to type this information correctly or you will not be able to log in. All usernames and passwords are lower case. You must type the password twice, This is to confirm you entered it correctly because Windows replaces the characters with dots.

If you have multiple user accounts on your computer you can check the box beside "Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the internet from this computer".

You can make this connection the "Default Internet Connection" which will allow your programs like Internet Explorer to dial this connection rather than others you may have set up.

You should check the box next to "Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection" to help prevent unauthorized access to your computer from the Internet.

(8) Once you reach this page you have completed the setup of your account. Click on Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop if you wish to have an icon placed on your desktop that when clicked will dial DfwOnline.net automatically.

(9) Once you double-click on the connection to dial it this window will appear. simply click on Dial to connect to the Internet.
